What is Infertility?
Infertility is a condition of not getting pregnant, despite having regular unprotected intercourse for a year or more. To determine whether a couple is Infertile or not, the doctor examines their health history, medications, and sexual history. In about 80 % of the couples, the cause of infertility is either an ovulation problem, blockage of fallopian tubes, or a sperm problem.
The patients visit the clinic for a consultation with a fertility specialist and an embryologist. A host of medical tests are performed to determine the sperm count, along with their quality and motility.
Step 2 : Preparation
The patient may be provided medication that enhances hormonal stimulation, which increases the number of healthy sperm.
Step 3 : Sperm Collection
The male partner provides a sperm sample on the stipulated day. In some cases, the sperm may need to be extracted from the testicle. Semen can also be provided on multiple occasions to increase the number of batches of sperm in storage.
Step 4 : Sperm Freezing
The healthiest sperm are then frozen. Usually, the sperm are frozen for one year. However, the duration can be extended with the consent of the couple.
